Ticketmaster refund guide

How to get a Ticketmaster refund if the event is canceled or you cannot go

Canceled: wait for the refund. Plans changed: resale.

Updated October 30, 2026 · General information, not legal advice

Key facts

Canceled event
No action needed in most cases. Refund to the original payment method once the organizer releases funds, often 14–21 days.
Postponed or moved
Tickets stay valid. A refund or credit exists only if the organizer approves one; Ticketmaster emails the option.
Changed plans
Sales are final. Refunds are not given because you cannot attend. Use official resale if the event allows it.
Third-party resale
Sales are final unless the event is canceled. Hard-stock tickets must be mailed back before a cancel refund is processed.
  1. 01
Open the order and the event status

Sign in, open My tickets, and read the email Ticketmaster sent. Canceled, postponed, and rescheduled each have a different path. Do not file a card dispute while an automatic refund is still inside the 14–21 day window.

  2. 02
If it is canceled, wait, then write if nothing posts

Give the 14–21 day window (longer for some events such as MLB, the Masters, and the US Open). If nothing hits the original card, write with the order number and the cancel notice. Box-office purchases follow the venue’s refund desk, often 30 days after funds are approved.

  3. 03
If you cannot attend a live date, do not ask for a cancel refund

Ask whether official resale is on. Third-party marketplace tickets are also final unless the show is canceled. Keep the order email if you later need a card-issuer summary for a canceled event that never refunded.

01Canceled event, refund not received

Hello, order [order number] for [product or service] on [purchase date] for [amount] was canceled.

Ticketmaster’s policy is an automatic refund to the original payment method within 14–21 days after the organizer releases funds. That refund has not posted. Please process it and confirm in writing.

02Postponed event, organizer opened refunds

Hello, order [order number] ([amount], [purchase date]) was postponed or moved. The organizer opened a refund option and I cannot attend the new date.

Please refund the ticket price and service fees to my original payment method and confirm that the tickets are void.

I am disputing a charge of [amount] from Ticketmaster on [charge date] for order [order number].

[What went wrong in one sentence]. I waited for the published refund path and it was not completed. The order confirmation and event-status emails are attached.

How this works

Ticketmaster’s US purchase policy says sales are final except in limited cases. If the event is canceled, you usually do not have to ask: a refund of the ticket price, service fees, and eligible add-ons goes to the original payment method once the organizer sends the funds, often in 14–21 days. If the event is postponed, rescheduled, or moved, the tickets stay valid unless the organizer opens a refund or credit. Changing your mind is not a refund reason; resale, if the listing allows it, is the usual path.

Final sale vs a real cancel

Organizer rules, not Ticketmaster support chat, decide most refunds. Quote the cancel email, not “I cannot go.”

  • Lost, stolen, or damaged tickets are not replaced.
  • Expedited shipping, merchandise, and fan-club fees are not refunded even when the ticket is.
  • A postponed date is not a cancel. Keep the ticket unless the organizer opens a refund.
  • Hard-stock third-party resale tickets for a canceled event must be mailed back before the refund is processed.
Before you send, and when to escalate

Before you send

  • Match the event status in your account before you write: canceled is not postponed.
  • Wait the 14–21 day auto-refund window on a cancel before you dispute the card.
  • Do not ask for a refund only because your plans changed.
  • Keep the original payment method; Ticketmaster will not refund a different card.

Escalate when

  • The event was canceled and no refund posted after the 14–21 day window.
  • The organizer opened a refund and your request was ignored.
  • You were charged for tickets that were never delivered or were voided without a refund.
Common questions
Does Ticketmaster refund tickets if I cannot go?
Not for a change of plans. US purchase policy treats most sales as final. Official resale is the usual option when the event allows it.
Do I need to request a refund if the show is canceled?
Usually no. Ticketmaster says it refunds the original payment method once the organizer sends the funds. Write only if that refund does not post.
What if the event is postponed, not canceled?
Your tickets stay valid for the new date or venue. A refund exists only if the organizer approves one and Ticketmaster emails you the option.
I bought resale tickets. Who refunds me?
If you bought them on Ticketmaster and the event is canceled, Ticketmaster’s resale refund path applies; hard-stock tickets may have to be mailed back. Tickets from an unofficial site are not Ticketmaster’s refund to process.
